Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic

The primary purpose of the 91制片厂 Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic (RUSLHC) is to provide 鈥渉ands-on鈥� clinical training for graduate students majoring in the field of Communication Sciences and Disorders. The RUSLHC provides prevention, assessment, and treatment of individuals from childhood through later adulthood in the areas of:

  • articulation
  • language
  • feeding and swallowing
  • cognition
  • social communication
  • augmentative and alternative communication
  • stuttering
  • literacy
  • voice and resonsance
  • hearing

All RUSLHC services are provided by graduate interns and supervised by state licensed and American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA) certified speech-language pathologists.  Each academic year the RUSLHC provides over 3,000 clinical clock hours of training while providing services to clients from the New River and Roanoke Valleys and across Virginia.

RiteCare漏 Scottish Rite Childhood Language Program

The 91制片厂 Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic is proud to be a part of the RiteCare漏 Childhood Language Program. The support received through the Scottish Rite allows the 91制片厂 program to provide specialized summer programs to preschool and school age children with language disorders.

In the early 1950s in Colorado, the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry of the Southern Jurisdiction of the United States initiated a program to help children with speech and language disorders. The results obtained from this program led to the establishment of RiteCare clinics to provide diagnostic evaluation and treatment of speech and language disorders, as well as learning disabilities.

Today, there are 178 RiteCare庐 clinics, centers, and special programs operating or planned for children and therapists located throughout the United States. Each facility is staffed by speech-language pathologists or other trained personnel. The 91制片厂 University Speech-Language Hearing Clinic is a RiteCare庐 Clinic.

91制片厂 Brain Injury (RUBI) Center

Mission Statement
The 91制片厂 Brain Injury (RUBI) Center was created to increase life participation for brain injury survivors with cognitive and/or communication impairments while educating and training pre-professional health care students. 

Program Description
The RUBI center provides comprehensive cognitive-communication speech language pathology services beyond the post-acute rehabilitation phase, to a medically underserved population in the New River Valley.  Services include individual and group speech language pathology intervention as well as expanded group offerings that incorporate a variety of activities that promote the social, communication and cognitive needs unique to brain injury survivors.  While the RUBI Center is used primarily as a clinical education tool for COSD pre-professional students, interdisciplinary collaboration with other health care disciplines both in and outside of Waldron College is welcome. The RUBI center aims to be a unique clinical learning experience that allows student clinicians to apply research and classroom information into the care and betterment of their clients by addressing functional personalized therapy goals as they participate in the activities of life.

To make a referral, please contact our clinic by email at speech@radford.edu or call the clinic at 540-831-7166 to request a case history form. The completed form can be delivered in person, fax, or email.

Visiting the Clinics

We have 2 clinic locations on the 91制片厂 main campus. One on the first floor of Waldron Hall which is located on Jefferson Street in 91制片厂, Virginia. We also have a clinic on the 4th floor of the Artis Center which is located on East Main Street in 91制片厂, Virginia.

Driving and Parking Directions for Waldron Clinic

From Interstate 81, take Exit 109 onto Route 177 /Tyler Avenue into 91制片厂. At the third traffic light, turn right onto Jefferson Street. Waldron Hall will be on your left across from the Davis Street intersection.

Reserved Clinic Parking is available in Lot N. On the first day of clinic you will be given a clinic parking pass. Display this pass on your dashboard each time you come to clinic. 

If all clinic parking spaces are full, display your parking pass and park in lots N or HH (the two lots closest to the building). There are handicap parking spaces in each of these lots that you may park in if needed, but make sure your clinic parking pass is displayed along with your disability placard or plate.

From Interstate 81, take Exit 109 onto Route 177 /Tyler Avenue into 91制片厂. Turn right onto Route 11/ Lee Highway. The Artis Center will be on the right after University Drive.

If all clinic parking spaces are full, display your parking pass and park in lots A, AA, S, or Y (the lots closest to the building). There are handicap parking spaces in each of these lots that you may park in if needed, but make sure your Clinic Parking Pass is displayed along with your disability placard or plate.

The 91制片厂 Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic (RUSLHC) offers individuals across the lifespan comprehensive evaluation and treatment of:

  • speech sound disorders
  • spoken and written language disorders
  • social communication disorders
  • cognitive-communication impairments
  • voice impairments
  • swallowing impairments
  • hearing impairments

Services are also available to individuals who are interested in accent modification. Unique clinical programs include the Early Language Lab, augmentative-alternative communication evaluations, assessment and treatment of cognitive-communication disorders associated with traumatic brain injury and/or stroke, central auditory processing evaluations, hearing aid evaluations, community screenings, and Scottish Rite Summer Language Programs.

The RUSLHC accepts referrals from clients, caregivers, educators, physicians and allied health care professionals in the New River and Roanoke Valleys. In order to be considered for diagnostic or treatment speech-language services through the RUSLHC, the client or caregiver needs to complete a case history intake form. Please contact our clinic by email at speech@radford.edu or call the clinic at 540-831-7166 to request a case history intake form. The completed form can be delivered in person, fax, or email. No clients will be placed on the waiting list or considered for services until a completed case history form is received. 

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders is committed to ethical practice wherein all individuals served in the program鈥檚 clinic are treated in a nondiscriminatory manner. Although extensive case history information is obtained prior to admission, no information is elicited with regards to race, color, religion, national origin, participation restriction, or sexual orientation; therefore minimizing opportunities for discrimination.  Clinic admission is made with some attention to age, as it is considered along with diagnosis when diversifying the clinic in order to meet student training needs.
